Israel strikes military targets in western and central Iran as Tehran launches missile waves

Israel's military says it has struck military sites in western and central Iran after warning of retaliation for the first Iranian attack on Israel since April. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps calls its missile barrage on northern Israel "the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes." Most missiles appear to have been intercepted. Hours earlier, Israel struck Hezbollah targets in southern Beirut, and the IDF said it detected a missile launched from Yemen.

Israel's military said early Monday that fighter jets had struck a series of military sites in western and central Iran, hours after warning of retaliation for the first direct Iranian attack on Israeli territory since April. Officials in Jerusalem described the targets as missile-launch infrastructure and command nodes tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran's IRGC said its overnight missile waves on northern Israel were "the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes," framing the barrage as a sustained campaign rather than a single retaliatory volley. The Israel Defense Forces said most of the inbound missiles were intercepted by air defenses; sirens sounded across the Galilee and the Haifa area.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to escalate further and, in remarks reported by the BBC, told Iran "that's enough." White House officials privately signaled that Washington wants a rapid de-escalation but is not pressing Israel to halt defensive operations.

Hours before the exchange, Israel struck what it described as Hezbollah weapons-storage and command targets in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Lebanese state media reported damage to several buildings; casualty figures were not immediately confirmed. The IDF said it also detected a missile launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory and was tracking its trajectory.

The broader picture, BBC News reported, is of a regional conflict that has widened in successive 24-hour cycles since the weekend, with parallel fronts now active in Iran, northern Israel, Lebanon and the Red Sea corridor.
